Hello readers and fans, Today I am here to discuss some underrated groups and artists that you should listen to and what kind of music they do. I personally believe that no matter what, anyone who has the passion and drive to pursue a career in the music industry deserves to be loved and appreciated for their craft. I will be doing this based on music genres and separating them that way. So, let’s get started!
R & B
- Unfair- Unfair is a solo artist that makes very serious R&B music and is also a K-pop composer, his music is very emotional R&B with some soul-like flair that I feel is great for any occasion. Unfair is currently working on new music so be prepared to love what you hear.
2. Jung JinWoo of Planetarium Records- Jinwoo has a very husky voice that goes well with his R&B flair voice and often experiments with different sounds that suit his vocal tone. He hasn’t released anything recently but it doesn’t mean that he isn’t preparing for it.
3. Corbyn of 24K- Corbyn is an artist that has a very unique vocal tone and experiments with different genres and music styles but he has a very R&B vocal tone that I feel you can just listen to and close your eyes.
4. Hoody- Hoody is the first and only female artist under AOMG. She is known for her collaboration with Jay Park on the very mellow single “Solo” last year. She has a very breathy, stable, and smooth vocal tone that I feel can work with any kind of music but she shines the brightest on R&B tracks.
5. Heize- Heize has a very beautiful, breathy vocal tone that really captivates people no matter what emotion she is using in her music. You can really hear the passion behind her vocals and how she really delivers on a song.
Rock
- Lucy- Lucy is a band that delivers a very unique experience to their audience with their very diverse choices in song production, instrumentation, and a really super creative discography. If you love bands that include string instruments, Lucy is definitely one that you should look out for!
2. N.Flying- From their very spontaneous, fun, and unique discography and playful lyrics, N.Flying is definitely a group that I recommend for people that love that sort of carefree vibe from a band. They are always full of surprises so, look out for all that they have to offer.
3. Sema- If you love that sort of classic rock sound from artists that you currently listen to, Sema is definitely a great choice for you. They give you a great and strong rock sound with incredible instrumentation and very strong, unique vocals.
4. Fistbump- If you want to listen to a band that has that grudge rock sound, Fistbump is definitely one that I would recommend to you. From their fiery performances and commanding vocals, Fistbump delivers music that I feel like changes the K-rock genre.
5. 2Z- If you want a band that gives a throwback to the 90s, I definitely recommend 2Z. 2Z has that very nostalgic sound that I feel like can bring you back to times when you were a rebellious teenager and make you head bang like no other.
Indie
- Cheeze- Cheeze delivers this effortless, gorgeous indie sound to all of her vocals and gives you a very peaceful, mindful experience when you listen to her music. She is the perfect artist to listen to while on a road trip or on a picnic.
2. GiriBoy- Giriboy is an artist that has a very distinctive and very fluid vocal tone, his music has a lot of soul influences as well as that classic soft indie style that can put you in a trance. He also loves to experiment with different music styles which makes him a very unique artist.
3. Colde- Colde is an artist that you probably have heard as a producer on a lot of Korean Hip-Hop songs but he also has some very mellow, acoustic songs that are perfect for a cloudless sunny sky kind of day. His voice is very calming and relaxing which I think is perfect for people that are lovers of Indie Music.
4. Yerin Baek- Yerin has this beautiful, classic almost 60s musical vocal tone when it comes to her voice. Her music that a very indie-pop feel which I think is perfect to listen to while you read or hang out with friends.
5. The Rose- The Rose’s music has a lot of various tones of indie-rock through their discography and their performances always carry beautiful and powerful messages and tones. I definitely recommend them for very great lyrics and stories through music.
Hip-Hop
- Sikboy- Sikboy is an underground Korean Hip-hop artist that I personally feel is going to take over the genre very soon, he has incredible changes in flow, creative production and bars, and character I feel makes him stand out from the rest of the artists in the community of Korean Hip-Hop.
2. Ted Park- I feel like Ted Park brings a very personal approach to his music, especially with his lyrics you can really hear the many stories that he tells through his writing and the productions are always fun and give you that party vibe.
3. Dumbfounded- I feel like Dumbfounded is an artist that has a very charismatic flow that his very commanding and aggressive but in a very playful way that makes you want to listen to more.
4. Ugly Duck- Known for his legendary collaborations with Jay Park, I feel like Ugly Duck is an artist that doesn’t get enough love for his very confident and cocky bars on many of AOMG’s records and he is someone I always get excited to hear on a song.
5. Paloalto- I feel as if Paloalto doesn’t get enough love and appreciation for the music he brings to the Korean Hip-hop industry, his flow changes, the very diverse production in each of his songs, and his persona I feel make him a very different rapper from other artists.
EDM
- Raiden- Raiden is an EDM Producer and artist under SM Entertainment, he is known for using his guitar (he is a trained guitarist) and electronic beats to create a very unique, attention-grabbing music experience that makes you fall in love with him.
2. Hitchhiker- Hitchhiker is a known EDM Producer who has been known to experiment with different subgenres of EDM from trap to bass-heavy styles that have gotten him to work with some of the biggest artists in the K-pop world.
3. HYO from Girls Generation- Known for her appearance in the 2nd generation group, Girls Generation, HYO has become a major hit as a DJ and artist in the EDM world mixing EDM beats with K-pop elements, she is most recognized for her catchy and energetic music.
4. Luna- Known for her dance-EDM style of music, Luna has made some of the most iconic EDM dance tracks in the K-pop world that I feel like just get you up and dancing all night long.
5. DJ Soda- Known for her very energetic Dj sets, DJ Soda has been a DJ that I feel brings a different beast to the electronic music world.
Soul
- Golden- Known for his gorgeous vocal tone, Golden has created some of the most timeless songs I have ever heard in the music industry. I feel like his music is honestly inspired by a lot of 90s soul and R&B music, which I think shows him as an artist that can do so many different things.
2. Kangta- Kangta is a very soulful R&B singer under SM Entertainment that has a lot of very passionate and emotional songs that I feel are so overlooked. His range is also INSANE.
3. Paul Kim- Known for his beautiful soul-filled ballads, Paul Kim delivers a very romantic feel to his music and how he draws you into the raw, pure emotions that he portrays as he sings.
4. Suzy- Known for her iconic collaborations with Baekhyun of EXO, Suzy has given this very playful, clear, stable vocal tone that I feel transforms you to a new place in time.
5. Ailee- Known for her incredible OSTs and timeless solo hits, Ailee gives you a very soft, full, and stable vocal tone as she sings. Her songs capture so many different elements and music styles which makes me see her in so many different ways.
Pop
- MustB- Known for having a very diverse discography, MustB is really breaking so many barriers in the pop music industry and making their music authentic and uniquely their own which makes you feel inspired.
2. E’last- From their very charismatic and confident title tracks to their incredibly, beautiful, and intimate b-sides, E’last delivers a very sexy and spontaneous side of the K-pop world that we don’t see very often.
3. PIXY- From their very dark and mysterious concept, and their incredibly challenging choreography, PIXY makes the bubblegum concept of K-pop disappear completely and give you a more elevated and empowering kind of music.
4. Dreamnote- From their very smooth, fun, and playful tracks, Dreamnote gives you a very seretonin boost of energy that can bring you out of your darkest moments of your day.
5. Greatguys- Known for their hip-hop pop sound, Greatguys has given the K-pop industry a taste of charm, sexiness, and great energy. They have a very diverse selection of music, so they are definitely worth looking into!
